2022 MHSAA Division 2 Regionals, No. 6

Tuesday, February 15, 2022. Pine Knob

WEATHER FORECAST (Pine Knob, Clarkston, MI)

Monday Night: Low overnight temp 10F (-12C).

Tuesday (RACE DAY): 9:00am 13F (-10C). 11:00am 19F (-17C). 1:00pm 24F (-4C). 3:00pm 26F (-3C). Humidity is expected to be 60-70% throughout the day. Wind will be out of the Northwest, 3 to 5 mph. Sunny.

SNOW CONDITIONS

Perfect. But because of the overnight cold temps, the morning snow will be dry (requiring a harder wax). I will suggest a hard base wax for both morning and afternoon starts and overlay as the temps rise.

MORNING RACE WAX RECOMMENDATIONS AND APPLICATION

· Base Wax: Iron in the new Swix PS5. Scrape and brush.

· Race Wax: Swix Marathon (white). Iron into base, allow to cool to room temp. and scrape. Brush out with Wild Boar Brush (T0164) . Finish polish with Blue Nylon (T0160).

· Overlay: Swix Marathon (white). Rubbed on and “roto wool” into the base.

AFTERNOON RACE WAX RECOMMENDATIONS AND APPLICATIO Base Wax: Iron in the new Swix PS5. Scrape and brush.

· Race Wax: Swix Marathon (white). Iron into base, allow to cool to room temp. and scrape. Brush out with Wild Boar Brush (T0164). Finish polish with Blue Nylon (T0160).

· Overlay: Swix Marathon (white). Rubbed on and “roto wool” into the base. -OR- HS7 or PS7 Spray.

WAXING CONSIDERATIONS

* New "Sharp" snow requires a little harder wax.

* Harder waxes offer greater durability for the abrasiveness of man-made snow.

* Because of the early morning start times, and cold "overnight" the snow will not warm up as fast as the air temps, so don't get fooled into waxing for the “projected high temp of the day”.

WEATHER FORECAST (Pine Knob, Clarkston, MI)

Tuesday Night: Low overnight temp 23F (-5C).

Wednesday (RACE DAY): 9:00am 36F (2C). 11:00am 41F (5C). 1:00pm 44F (6C). 3:00pm 45F (6C). Humidity is expected to be 70-80% throughout the day. Wind will be out of the Southwest, 14 to 16 mph. Cloudy.

SNOW CONDITIONS

Great racing surface, but because of the warming, overlays will become very important as the day goes on.

MORNING RACE WAX RECOMMENDATIONS AND APPLICATION

· Base Wax: Iron in the new Swix PS5. Scrape and brush. Race Wax: Swix Marathon (White). Iron into base, allow to cool to room temp. and scrape. Brush out with Wild Boar Brush (T0164). Finish polish with Blue Nylon (T0160).

Overlay: HS8 or TS8 Spray.

AFTERNOON RACE WAX RECOMMENDATIONS AND APPLICATION

· Base Wax: Iron in the new Swix PS5. Scrape and brush.

· Race Wax: Swix Marathon (White). Iron into base, allow to cool to room temp. and scrape. Brush out with Wild Boar Brush (T0164). Finish polish with Blue Nylon (T0160).

· Overlay: HS8 or TS8 Spray.

WAXING CONSIDERATIONS

* New "Sharp" snow requires a little harder wax.

* Because of the early morning start times, and cold "overnight" the snow will not warm up as fast as the air temps, so don't get fooled into waxing for the “projected high temp of the day”.

AFTER FINAL RACE WAX APPLICATION

–Scrape base thoroughly. Do not leave excess was on the surface of the ski base. Make sure you remove all the wax from the base, any wax left on the bottom of your ski will allow the sharp snow crystals to dig in and slow you down.

2022 MHSAA Division 1, Regionals, No. 3

Thursday, February 17, 2022. Mt. Brighton

WEATHER FORECAST (Mt. Brighton, Brighton, MI)

Wednesday Night: Low overnight temp 40F (4C).

Thursday (RACE DAY): 9:00am 40F (4C). 11:00am 40F (4C). 1:00pm 40F (4C). 3:00pm 38F (3C). Humidity is expected to be 80-90% throughout the day. Wind will be out of the Southwest, 5 to 10 mph. RAIN.

SNOW CONDITIONS

Great (hard) racing surface, but with the rain, overlays are going to be very important. Because of the “hard race surface”, it’s still important to have a good hard base (PS5) and then use the overlays for the rain and higher temps.

MORNING RACE WAX RECOMMENDATIONS AND APPLICATION

· Base Wax: Iron in the new Swix PS5. Scrape and brush.

. Race Wax: Swix HS8. Iron into base, allow to cool to room temp. and scrape. Brush out with White Nylon (T0161). Finish polish with Blue Nylon (T0160).

. Overlay: Swix Marathon (BLACK). Rubbed on and “roto wool” into the base. -OR- HS8 or TS8 Spray.

2022 MHSAA Division 2 Regionals, No. 5

Monday, February 14, 2022. Caberfae Peaks

WEATHER FORECAST (Caberfae Peaks, Cadillac, MI)

Sunday Night: Low overnight temp 0F (-18C).

Monday (RACE DAY): 9:00am 9F (-13C). 11:00am 16F (-9C). 1:00pm 19F (-7C). 3:00pm 21F (-6C). Humidity is expected to be 75-80% throughout the day. Wind will be out of the Southwest, 8 to 10 mph. SNOW.

SNOW CONDITIONS

These single digit temps should provide an amazing racing surface for everyone. But because of the very cold weekend temps and the new snow, I would suggest waxing with the coldest (hardest) wax you have, as the surface snow will be extremely sharp.

MORNING RACE WAX RECOMMENDATIONS AND APPLICATION

· Base Wax: Iron in the new Swix PS5. Scrape and brush.

Race Wax: Swix Polar. Iron into base, allow to cool to room temp. and scrape. Brush out with Wild Boar Brush (T0164). Finish polish with Blue Nylon (T0160).

Overlay: First run - none. Second run – Swix Marathon (white). Rubbed on and “roto wool” into the base, light brush with a Blue Nylon brush.
